In keeping with our using the musical medium for other artistic ventures, here’s a link to an article of an art show held at a record store. Instead of canvas, these artists actually use the record as the backdrop. Pretty neat, although I wish they had kept more of the record’s spirit – it’s not immediately apparent – except to us vinylheads, that is – that these were lps that form the backdrop. Anyways, here’s the link.

Apparently the first recording device was just that – it recorded the sound waves, but there was no way of playing them back – you just got to look at the pretty sound wave on paper. There’s an excellent they recommend too…here’s the amazon link

The powers that be decided that Record Store Day was just too good to only have once a year, so we’re celebrating it again this coming Friday, yes that one, Black Friday, November 25. We’ll be opening early at 9 am to let all you early vinyl shoppers in. Shipments will be coming in all this week, so we don’t know yet how many or which ones of the (very!) limited pressings we’ll be getting. But rest assured, we will have the biggest and best selection of Record Store Day exclusives in the Miami Valley. Come early, as our stock will not last long, as Omegaheads ’round the Valley have been saving up their pennies, beer money, and more just to spend it on vinyl here at Omega.
Some highlights of the Black Friday Record Store Day exclusives are Warren Haynes with a 12 incher of “Rivers Gonna Rise”, a protest song from the solo album “Man in Motion”, the Beatles, and the Byrds.
A variety of other top-notch artists will be unveiling special vinyl releases to mark the occasion. Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam, will release a live performance recorded this past August at Los Angeles’ Village Studios and originally broadcast on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. Other highlights of the event include the 40-gram red vinyl version of Red Hot Chili Peppers legendary 1991 punk-funk masterpiece Blood Sugar Sex Magik, The Black Keys’ limited-edition 12-inch of their new single El Camino, with a bonus b-side “Run Right Back”, Hold Steady frontman Craig Finn’s Honolulu Blues featuring two new tracks from his debut solo LP, in 7-inch format, and a 12-inch edition of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Kiss My Amps, which features six live cuts from last year’s bluesy Mojo tour.
