More sad news from the world of music…Dick Clark, longtime host of American Bandstand and the countdown leader for the New Year’s Eve balldrop in Times Square, has died of a massive heart attack at the age of 82. Here’s a link to the NY Times obit.

Artists use lps as their canvas for fine art

In keeping with our using the musical medium for other artistic ventures, here’s a link to an article of an art show held at a record store. Instead of canvas, these artists actually use the record as the backdrop. Pretty neat, although I wish they had kept more of the record’s spirit – it’s not immediately apparent – except to us vinylheads, that is – that these were lps that form the backdrop. Anyways, here’s the link.

Here’s an interesting article on the earliest recorded sounds from Boing Boing

Apparently the first recording device was just that – it recorded the sound waves, but there was no way of playing them back – you just got to look at the pretty sound wave on paper. There’s an excellent they recommend too…here’s the amazon link

Sad news…Whitney Houston just died, age 48, on the eve of the Grammys

Pop diva Whitney Houston passed away at the young age of 48. Cousin to Dionne Warwick, godchild of Aretha Franklin, daughter of a gospel singer, she was beloved by many. Here’s a link to the Yahoo story:
