Antonio Dominici, a guitarist and composer from Palermo, was the first professional guitarist in Imperial Russia. After leaving Naples for Russia, he established himself in St. Petersburg and Moscow, becoming a guitar teacher for the aristocracy and the Romanov court, including Grand Duke Michail Aleksandrovic and Prince Yusupov. The 1917 Revolution led him to a Bolshevik detention camp; he returned to Italy in 1922, settling in Turin, where he became known as "the Radio guitarist" thanks to EIAR. His compositions, handed down in manuscripts, range from romances and nostalgic melodies to marches, mazurkas and virtuosic fantasias. This recording, curated by Roberto Guarnieri, rediscovers a figure capable of overcoming social and geographical barriers through sheer dedication to the guitar.
